When an individual has a large number of genetic factors associated with a higher risk for a particular condition, then it is indicated as a likely higher risk. Please note that genetic predisposition indicates a higher probability of an individual developing a condition and not a certainty. For example, certain women carrying mutations in the BRCA gene are more likely to develop breast cancer. However, not ALL women who carry that mutation will develop cancer. A disease condition is caused due to multiple factors that often have no discernible cause. But in some cases, a person carries a genetic variant that is a known risk factor and genetic testing can reveal these factors.
We insist that our health report is interpreted only by a qualified doctor or a genetic counselor to determine the extent of gene sharing within the family and the level of gene expression before determining the risk of the disease condition.
