Gene: CLSTN1

Alternate names for this Gene: ALC-ALPHA|CDHR12|CST-1|CSTN1|PIK3CD|XB31alpha|alcalpha1|alcalpha2

Gene Summary: This gene is a member of the calsyntenin family, a subset of the cadherin superfamily. The encoded transmembrane protein, also known as alcadein-alpha, is thought to bind to kinesin-1 motors to mediate the axonal anterograde transport of certain types of vesicle. Amyloid precursor protein (APP) is trafficked via these vesicles and so this protein is being investigated to see how it might contribute to the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.

Location in Chromosome : 1p36.22

Description of this Gene: calsyntenin 1

Type of Gene: protein-coding

Gene: PIK3CD

Alternate names for this Gene: APDS|IMD14|P110DELTA|PI3K|p110D

Gene Summary: Phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3Ks) phosphorylate inositol lipids and are involved in the immune response. The protein encoded by this gene is a class I PI3K found primarily in leukocytes. Like other class I PI3Ks (p110-alpha p110-beta, and p110-gamma), the encoded protein binds p85 adapter proteins and GTP-bound RAS. However, unlike the other class I PI3Ks, this protein phosphorylates itself, not p85 protein.
