Gene: MTMR9
Alternate names for this Gene: C8orf9|LIP-STYX|MTMR8
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a myotubularin-related protein that is atypical to most other members of the myotubularin-related protein family because it has no dual-specificity phosphatase domain. The encoded protein contains a double-helical motif similar to the SET interaction domain, which is thought to have a role in the control of cell proliferation. In mouse, a protein similar to the encoded protein binds with MTMR7, and together they dephosphorylate phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate and inositol 1,3-bisphosphate.
Gene is located in Chromosome: 8
Location in Chromosome : 8p23.1
Description of this Gene: myotubularin related protein 9

PMID 17855449 2007 Starting from 62 663 gene-based single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in three sequential case-control association studies, we identified a replicated association between the obesity phenotype (BMI > or =30 kg/m(2)) and a SNP (rs2293855) located in the myotublarin-related protein 9 (MTMR9) gene in the chromosomal segment 8p23-p22.
