Gene: ZNF346
Alternate names for this Gene: JAZ|Zfp346
Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a nucleolar, zinc finger protein that preferentially binds to double-stranded (ds) RNA or RNA/DNA hybrids, rather than DNA alone. Mutational studies indicate that the zinc finger domains are not only essential for dsRNA binding, but are also required for its nucleolar localization. The encoded protein may be involved in cell growth and survival. It plays a role in protecting neurons by inhibiting cell cycle re-entry via stimulation of p21 gene expression. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants.

Location in Chromosome : 5q35.2
Description of this Gene: zinc finger protein 346
Type of Gene: protein-coding
Gene: UIMC1
Alternate names for this Gene: RAP80|X2HRIP110
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a nuclear protein that interacts with Brca1 (breast cancer 1) in a complex to recognize and repair DNA lesions. This protein binds ubiquitinated lysine 63 of histone H2A and H2AX. This protein may also function as a repressor of transcription. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
